Hannah Tomaszewski and Emily Quinn have joined the Bigfoot marketing team as Digital Marketing Strategists, alongside Senior Marketing Strategist, Emily Cocker.
How have our newbies settled in?
Starting a new job is always a daunting experience. Generally, you spend the night before overthinking the day ahead, wondering what the office will be like, whether you’ll get on with your new colleagues and, let’s face it, panicking massively! Maybe this is the norm in most cases, but we make newbies at Bigfoot Digital feel right at home.
Em and Hannah recently joined Team Bigfoot alongside Senior Digital Marketing Strategist, Emily Cocker, bringing a love of content writing to the office. Our new additions come from two completely different backgrounds and experiences. We chat with them to find out how their first week has been and what they’re looking forward to in 2018.
Tell us about your first week in the office.
Em: I’ve had an amazing first week in my new role (and don’t my family and friends know it!) I spent some time with Bigfoot in 2016 where I was desperate for some experience in a career where I could write and be with a team who were passionate about what they do. Coming back has been the best decision I could have made. It’s a little difficult having two Emily’s in the same office and same team, however! Hannah and I were rather lucky in the time we started – we enjoyed a big Christmas Do! Escape rooms, Chinese buffets and experiencing the sights of Sheffield is something I could get used to…
Hannah: I’ve also had the best week! I was mainly super excited to be able to write for a living – the ultimate dream! But meeting everyone and settling into the office has been really good too. As Em said, our starting date was great timing as we were able to join in on the Christmas Party, meaning we got to get to know everyone after being locked in a small room with them for an hour – always an ice breaker! As for the rest of the evening, what happens at the Christmas do, stays at the Christmas do…
How did you find your first meeting with Bigfoot Digital?
Em: I had a meeting with Mark a couple of weeks before I started which really put me at ease. He is extremely passionate about Bigfoot Digital and the direction of the company, but then again, so is everyone else in the office! After the role was offered to me, I couldn’t wait to get started and it’s been a joy to be a part of the team ever since.
Hannah: When I came in for my initial interview, I was so nervous and totally babbled my way through it! (Although Mark insisted I didn’t – a definite lie!). It was so nice to learn about the history of the company, and how much value Mark places on his staff being the reason for it’s growth. I left being desperate for the job and screamed so loudly when I learnt I’d got it! On my first day, everyone was so friendly and, even though we’ve only been here a week, I now feel like a proper part of the team.
What sparked your interest in content writing and a Digital Marketing career?
Em: I first wrote a ridiculous story about a dolphin when I was about 7 years old, and ever since then, I wrote stories about anything and everything I could. I loved writing and the idea of writing for my career was something I could only have hoped. Of course, I write in a very different way at Bigfoot, but the challenge I enjoy the most is the variation of content I produce and the tricks to really boost how we come across.
Hannah: For as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to be a writer. Since I was little, I used to annoy my parents by forcing them to read poems, stories and songs I’d written – it still hasn’t changed all these years later! I studied Creative Writing at university after realising I’d never want to do anything else and have always dreamed of working somewhere where I would have creative freedom and be allowed to run with my own ideas.
How have you found working with the team?
Em: The whole team at Bigfoot Digital are the loveliest people you could ever meet! It’s a great feeling to wake up (even on a Monday morning) and be excited for the day ahead and to also spend it with people you can bounce ideas off. Working in Team Bigfoot with Hannah and Emily has been amazing – we get on so well and we have really gelled together as a team.
Hannah: When I first realised Em had worked here before I have to say I was slightly intimidated, but, luckily, the team has grown massively since last year so she was, luckily, as nervous as I was! I can’t believe how well I get on with everyone, and it’s so nice to work in a place where most conversations start with the phrase ‘I’m thinking of a word…’ and no-one bats an eyelid! I genuinely like every member of the team but have fallen in love with Team Bigfoot and my two Emily’s – which is never confusing, I promise!
What are you looking forward to in 2018?
Em: I am so excited to work on Bigfoot’s marketing strategy for 2018 and to also build my knowledge of the industry even further. I’m feeling more inspired than I’ve ever felt after spending a week in the office, so I’m looking forward to seeing how I can personally progress in 2018. It’s a very exciting time for Bigfoot and it’s a privilege to be a part of it. Bring it on!
Hannah: I’m looking forward to getting to know the team better and being able to (with a bit of luck/hard work) call myself a marketing expert! Like Em, I’m excited to learn more about marketing, to get stuck into working out a strategy for the year ahead and, hopefully, come up with some helpful ideas to further grow Bigfoot! If 2018 is anything like this past week, it’s going to be amazing!
