Google announced today that they’ve added new features to the already impressive Analytics suite. If you aren’t already signed up, then these new tricks and tools may convince you to finally join. The first of their big announcements is that Google Analytics is now on Google+, so you can follow them for all the latest analytics news.
Content Testing – On your analytics dashboard you will now have the option to carry about A/B/N testing on your website content. It’s really easy to set up, all you need is a few different website designs and a goal in mind. This feature is great for testing the water before launching a full website re-design as it allows you to track user reaction to different content.
Rather than trying it one way, waiting to see results and then trying it a different way, now you can test up to six variations simultaneously.
How do I set this up?
First up, you’re going to need the various content designed and uploaded as normal pages on your website. Then head over to analytics and open the content, then experiments tab. The wizard will guide you through the set-up process in the usual easy-to-follow Google style.
The best part, you get to determine what percentage of visitors will see each page, and this will be taken into account in the reporting. So if you aren’t too sure about a particular layout, but you want to give it a try, you won’t be forced to test it on a huge audience. Another great feature is the user tracking – when users return to your site they’ll see the same content as before, so no confusing your audience! Stats are live, and you can choose to wait for the experiment to end or finish it early once you’re satisfied.
